Straight answers to the questions behind process work
Every other section of this site answers a question with our product. This one does not. These are the explanations we give people before anyone mentions software, written so they are worth reading even if you never talk to us.
Process
Seeing how work actually happens, and writing it down in a way that lasts.
What is task mining, and how is it different from process mining?
Process mining reconstructs a process from the event logs your systems already write, so it sees what the systems recorded. Task mining watches what a person actually does at their desk, so it sees the steps that never reach a system at all.
Read thisCan you do process mining without event logs?
Not process mining as the term is defined, because the method is the reconstruction of a process from event logs. You can still get the thing you wanted the logs for, which is an accurate picture of how the work actually runs, from evidence most organisations already hold.
Read thisHow do you map a process when nothing is documented?
Start from the material that already exists but nobody files under documentation, then check it against one recorded run of the job. Almost nothing is genuinely undocumented; it is usually undocumented in the one place people thought to look.
Read thisWhat does CPS 230 require you to document about your critical operations?
You have to identify and document the processes and resources that deliver each critical operation, including people, technology, information, facilities and service providers, along with the interdependencies between them and the associated risks, obligations, key data and controls. That is a mapping obligation, and no system log produces it.
